Recently, I initiated a conservation project titled “Baseline Assessment and Conservation of Himalayan Musk Deer (Moschus leucogaster) through Community Leadership in the Shared Landscape of Dolpa, Nepal,” funded by the Rufford Foundation in collaboration with Mr. Rishi, an independent researcher from Nepal. The study is being conducted in Shey Phoksundo National Park, Dolpa District, Western Nepal. Present project aims to assess the distribution, population density, and habitat use patterns of Himalayan musk deer using camera trapping. It will also focus on identifying major threats to the species while promoting community-based conservation through local participation, awareness programs, training activities, and the establishment of a Musk Deer Conservation Committee (MDCC) for long-term conservation and monitoring of the species and its habitat.
